Why was this allowed to happen?The following is taken from another site without permission, but feel he will understand why if he reads it. I have edited it slightly to protect the young people in this dreadful event. Why it was allowed to happen is beyond me. What follows, is the victim's version and as stated, I have edited it to protect the youngsters. I have chatted on another forum with the main person involved and know a few details about him.

We got on a c2c train at West Ham, and a group of (black) teenagers were heading towards the exit. We had had our camera phones out to record movies of the train coming in. As we stepped onto the train, the tallest member of the gang told me 'oi get off the train blad.' When I didn't get off, he got on the train. I went to sit in the aisle seat, but he pushed me over so he was on one side and the wall was on the other side. The other members of the 'gang' kind of surrounded us. HE asked if the train stopped at Limehouse, I said I don't know but I didn't think so. He then asked where we lived. I said North London and my mate said nothing. He then saw a bilge in my zip pocket and said 'whats this then?'. He started to unzip the pocket and when I stoppped him, I saw something green, and felt a sharp pain on the back of my leg. (when I looked after, it was the 'break glass' hammer thing off of a 377).
Anyway, when he tried to do the same thing again and I stopped him, he hit me again and I stood up. As I stood up, another person took my digital camera out of my other pocket. I snatched it back and tried to move, but the guy with the hammer moved his leg to block my exit, so I climbed over the seat which I was sitting on, and my mate followed behind me. When we were talking, we basically agreed that we didnt feel safe in that carriage, so we moved down to the front one, which was busier. Then they came down into that carriage, so we moved to sit opposite some people. Then they walked past us again and said 'F**k this lets bolt.' When we got to Fenchurch Street, we didnt see them get off, so I told the security there, and they legged it down and searched the train and didnt find anyone. Then they searched the train next to it, including the one who (had) the hammer. Then the police were called and about ten coppers came etc....

After I had first read this, I wondered why at times like this, there are no hidden security cameras on the units to help capture and then convict the assailants.
