Why cut services that pay?

Out of Interest, local Rail operator C2C is considering ending all services that start and terminate at Laindon Station.

As you can imagine this has provoked outrage amongst local commuters who now face standing up in overcrowded trains, as all trains will start at Shoeburyness.

Laindon has been using its extra platform since the 1950s and there is a well known saying - I Quote: "If it ain't broke, don't fix it".

C2C will have a lot to answer to if they ignore the views of their paying customers and go ahead with the timetable changes.
The local papers have already brought up the dreaded "Misery Line". I wonder if it will ever go away.
Considering the above title has since been given to one of London Undergrouns lines, why should the LT&SR take it back again because of service cuts?

"Misery Line".

What is that?

Years ago, the LT&SR was known as the Misery Line because of the many delays and train failures they were experiencing. the title has since been transferred to the northern Line on LUL, but who has it now, I don't know. I thank you for bringing this to light again, as we can find out where it is via another forum I am on.

Thank you for the lovely pic's your Dad took at Dagenham Dock and since allowed you to post on here.

My dad doesn't care what I do with his photos Rolling Eyes

I was always lead to beleive "The Misery line" was MerseyRail, hence so many people calling it "MiseryRail"

The LTS was the misery line once. We are very close to taking the UK reliability record from Scotrail this year!

About 15 years ago, I was refused a job because I lived on the LTS.

Interestingly the new timetable doesn't work at all!

I give it a week before some manager somewhere realises it and changes stuff.

Now why doesn't that surprise me? Laughing Laughing Laughing

I have taken the liberty to copy and paste the following newspaper report:

Furious commuters have accused rail company c2c of taking the route back to the dark days of the "Misery Line".

Cancellations, delays and packed trains and platforms have led angry travellers to bombard the company with complaints in the week that c2c launched a controversial new timetable.

Commuters across south Essex had expressed doubts over the new timetable before it was introduced on Saturday and now many claim their fears were well-founded.

c2c communications manager Mike Lamport claimed this week's problems had not been caused by the new timetable, but by a string of other "unforeseen" issues. Rolling Eyes

I wonder exactly WHAT these issues are? Laughing

It just proves our managers think that the public are stupid. They don't have a second thought about telling huge porkies.

It is quite complex, but it comes down to the new timetable. Some examples off the top of my head :-

07x08 from Shoeburyness sidings to Shoeburyness Pl 2 while the platform is occupied by the 0710.

Trains speeded up so much that it is not possible to maintain time. 10 years ago you could, but the modern railway is a different beast nowdays. There is no way I can do London to Shoeburyness all stations in 1h 4mins and keep to my "Professional driving policy"

PNB's and turn arounds sometimes cut to the bone. OK for when everything runs fine, but as soon as you are delayed it breaks. If I am 10 minutes late arriving, and have a 20 minute PNB my next working will be 10 minutes late. When PNB's and turn arounds were longer we'd just cut it short (but not below minimum) or do a quick change of ends.

Apparently there are changes afoot for Monday. I haven't managed to run on time ALL WEEK, and I have tried.

It is you and your colleagues who get my sympathy, because no matter what the Management say, they hide when the sh*t hits the fan. If you follow their instructions, break the rules and something drastic happens, YOU guys are at fault, possibly lose your jobs, while they get to keep theirs. I knew one of the Management personally years ago.

Generally yes. I have to say that our local managment are being very good. They hate the situation as much as everybody else. It's the ex bussmen that make the decisions though!
