ShoeburynessWhen I was quite young, we used to go to Southend every so often on a Sunday morning, but I can recall that one time we went through to Shoeburyness and the Steam depot as it was then, was on the opposite side to the current depot for the electrics. I can't recall anything where the Electric depot now stands though.
On one occasion we travelled through to Shoeburyness, we went cockling and I am certain it was there that one of the pillowcases that we had filled, split and shed all the cockles we had collected in it, on to the track below the train. I do know for a fact we had gone to Shoeburyness.
Another part I can't remember, is that of the Military Depot beyond the station. From what I know now, it has been there for some years.

The sidings were there, full of carrages. There were also some stables and goods facilities. The stables are used as offices now, they still look like stables!

The line was extended from Southend to Shoeburyness to serve the MoD (or WD as it was.) They still get regular trains.

Thank you again. It was more Southend we visited, despite asking Dad if we could go to 'the end of the line.' now and again. When I get down that way again, I WILL go to the end of the line as the last time was behind Steam and on a 'Special' that the LT&SR Society had suggested getting up. This was the first steam tour since the electrics started full service back in the 1960's. I videoed my Day Out.
