Hornchurch Marshalling YardCan anybody confirm or deny that Hornchurch once had a marshalling yard please? I got told today that it once had one and now it is a housing estate, but even I can't remember and passed there so often when a child and travelling almost every other weekend between Laindon and Dagenham Heathway. In all honesty, it is the first time that I had even heard they had ever had one.

Hornchurch goods yardThe top one is from LUL metals and the lower image is from Flash Earth the link is here - http://www.flashearth.com/
I remember as a school kid going past the old yard entrance on the way to school and as an adult going to the car breakers yard that used to be located there.
Hope this helps

In the book 'Down The Line To Southend' there is a picture from 1909 that shows a train passing through Hornchurch and it looks like there's a yard there, and a signal box.

Good book that, but be careful it is full of mistakes.
The biggest one being that Cable Street is named after the L&B traction method. That is quoted in a LOT of books after and is completely false.
