Four tracks maybe?I noticed today that the railway boundary between Upminster and Laindon is a lot further away than it needs to be, enough to fit in at least 2 more lines.
What are the chances of the company having bought enough for 4 track to Laindon? Maybe the LT&S did it when they quadroupled the bromley - barking section, or the LMS when they did to Upminster? Somehow I doubt BR would have bought the land.
Something to think about that I have never seen published before!

From what I have learnt, Laindon only had two tracks through it until the early 1950's, when the third was laid and now the Main Up road. On Basildon History website and about Laindon station, there are some old photo's showing the double and then the three.
When next down that way and hopefully in the near future, I will get to ride down the line and see what you mean.

When you get to ride, look to the up side, the boundary fence is quite a long way away for no real reason.

You have to remember that these books could be wrong. A lot of the captions in books make assumptions.
The Middleton Press and Peter kay books seem the best to me.
One day I'd love to write one, but I think supply more than meets demand.
