Dagenham East accident report.

This is an interesting read, worth downloading the pdf.

I can remember this night as I was out with my parents when the news broke. It also turned out that our next door neighbour was on one of the trains, but safely seated on Dagenham East station waiting to get home. In my collection of railway books, magazines, etc., I have some pictures taken at the scene, but won't put them on here due to copyright.

I probably have the same book. When I first started as a Guard my girlfriend thought it would be funny to buy me a train crash book. She intentionally picked the one with Dagenham East in it. I'm with a different person now Smile

On a side note, until very recently we still had drivers who remembered that night.

I saw a picture somewhere a while ago of an accident at Pitsea. The picture showed a fireman surveying the wreck of the wooden carraiges.
I can't for the life of me find it now, can anyone here shed any light on the incident?

I have to admit, I know nothing of this one. I can recall there was once a freight derailment at West Horndon in I am certain was the early 1960's that blocked the 'down' line for some time, but exact date is unknown. Whether or not the local papers of the time can shed (excuse the pun) any light on them, I hasten to add. If I get time over the weekend and remember, I will attempt to do some research on both.

Now almost 50 years ago, with many still recalling that fateful event, some who lost friends or relatives. to this day, I can still recall exactly where I was on that night and at the time we learned about it.
