When I was a mere youngster, I would spend many a weekend in Dagenham and go down the dock station to watch the trains steam through. One day, I was with my brother and the Bobby invited us to see inside the box, where we later tried pulling the levers, turning the wheel to close the then gates, but too slow that the Bobby had to take over due to a train approaching.
The picture below was taken by my brother a fifteen years ago and sent to me in memory of those days.
Oh what lovely memories of steam hauled freight with up to 52 wagons and a Brake van on the back? Yes, I used to count the wagons after noting down the loco number. I never had a camera then, more's the pity.

See www.bramleyline.org.uk where one day we just might see an Ex-LT&SR Standard 4 steaming along as a Guest loco.
