While looking on E-bay today, I noticed a 'Accident Report' for sale on the derailment of a train between Laindon and Pitsea, that took place in 1961. I was living at Laindon at this time, but have no recollection of it. Can anybody furnish us with details of the derailment please?

The derailment I do remember, took place as far as I am aware, of a Goods train in West Horndon station area around 1962/3 time. The debris from this was soon cleared up and services delayed for a matter of days I believe.

Took place just before the bridge over the "Old" A13 just prior to entering Pitsea Station, Southend bound.
If you have a local road map it was where the line runs alongside Sandon Rd.

Thank you, I know the one you mean. I still can't recall it happening, yet I can recall Benfleet station being flooded in 1953.

Are you still looking for a copy of the Min of Transport report on the crash at Pitsea in 1961?

I have just obtained a soft copy. Is there a way I could e-mail it to you?

Or you could do what I did, which was to use the internet to access "www.railwaysarchive.co.uk/eventlisting.php", then set both date boxes to 1961 (from a drop-down menu) and change the "select location" to "Laindon-Pitsea" (also from a drop-down menu). Use the "Go" button which is next to "Hide Search", not the "Go" button which is a bit lower on the screen.

This will find just one entry which has a PDF symbol to the left of it. Click on the PDF symbol. This will bring up another PDF symbol. If you click on that one, the report will appear. You can save the report.
